Today, we are excited to welcome Markey Read, one of our Premier Success Coaches, to the eWomenNetwork blog as our guest writer. In the article below, Markey shares how to get to the root of your pricing conundrum (and how to fix it). Welcome, Markey!
I used to think pricing was the problem—until I realized it was only the symptom.
I was convinced that if I could just help my clients “pick the right number,” everything else would fall into place.
And pricing does matter.
It’s the lever that determines whether your business supports your life—or slowly drains it.
30+ years of business have taught me two things:
Pricing doesn’t break on its own.
It reveals what’s happening underneath.
And this is where most entrepreneurs get it wrong. It’s about being rooted in your True Nature—how your business is actually designed to grow.
Your Business Has a Natural Design
There is a quiet moment in the life of every seed—right before it breaks through the surface. There are no leaves, no visible growth, no external proof of what’s happening beneath the surface. And yet, everything that the seed needs to grow is already encoded within it.
Your business works the same way.
From the moment you started your work—whether that was 3 years ago or 30—there was a natural intelligence embedded in it. A pattern. A design. A way your business wants to grow.
I call this your S.E.E.D. Code™.
Once you see it, you can’t unsee it. This is not a strategy or a framework you layer on top. It is the organizing intelligence beneath everything you do. And when you ignore it—or build on top of it without understanding it—your business feels heavier and more complicated than it should.
Why So Many Successful Women Undervalue Their Work
This is where pricing comes in.
Because what I see over and over again—especially with experienced women entrepreneurs—is this:
You have a deep calling to make the world a better place.
You have years (sometimes decades) of experience.
You deliver real results.
You care deeply about your clients.
And yet…
You hesitate when it comes to pricing.
You soften your language.
You over-explain your value.
You create custom offers just to make the price feel justified.
And somewhere in the back of your mind, you’re wondering…
“Why does this feel harder than it should at this level?”
Sound familiar?
One of my clients put it this way: “I felt like I had to explain every line item and justify my pricing.”
This isn’t a pricing problem; it’s a design problem.
The Real Reason Pricing Feels Hard
When your business isn’t calibrated to its natural design, a few things happen. Your offers don’t feel fully anchored. Your messaging sounds right, but it doesn’t sound quite like you. Your value feels harder to articulate. Your pricing feels negotiable. And sales conversations feel smarmy.
So, you compensate by adding more, over-explaining, and offering to customize. And over time, your business becomes heavier to carry.
Many entrepreneurs assume this means they need:
Better systems
More confidence
Stronger sales skills
If you’ve experienced even two or three of these, you’re not alone. You’re seeing the symptoms of a business that’s out of sync with itself. It means that you’re building on top of a foundation you haven’t fully defined.
The S.E.E.D. Code™: Your Business DNA
Your S.E.E.D. Code™ reveals the natural structure of your business:
Shape – Delivering your services in a form that is in harmony with your natural energy.
Entry Point – The natural place clients begin engaging with you—opening the door into your Sphere of Brilliance.
Essence – The core energy and value you bring to your field.
Differentiation – The unique combination of your Shape, Entry Point, and Essence that makes your work unmistakably yours.
Each element builds on the one before it.
When they’re in sync, something powerful happens. You stop trying to “position” your value…And start expressing it.
Why Essence Changes Everything About Pricing
Out of all four elements, Essence is where pricing truly shifts. Your Essence is the natural way you create value.
It’s the part of your work that feels effortless to you, deeply impactful for your clients, and is often so natural that you don’t even think to name it
In fact, most people miss it entirely because they’re too close to it. And yet, this is the very thing most entrepreneurs skip.
But here’s the truth:
Your pricing will never feel solid until your value is clear.
And your value will never feel clear until your Essence is visible.
When you’re disconnected from your Essence:
You rely on credentials instead of clarity.
You explain instead of invite.
You justify instead of stand tall.
When you’re connected to it:
Your message lands faster.
Your best-fit clients recognize you immediately.
Your offers feel cleaner, more accessible.
Your pricing feels grounded and worth it.
There’s no need for a hard sales pitch because your ideal clients lean in and ask for more.
From Proving Your Worth to Owning It
There’s a turning point I see in every client journey.
They stop trying to prove their value…
And start owning it.
One client realized she had nearly 20 years of experience in her field – including the years she worked for another company before she launched her business. That single realization changed how she spoke, how she showed up, and how she priced her work.
She told me, “I don’t sound wishy-washy anymore. I’m clear about my prices because I remember they came to me for my expertise.”
That’s what alignment does. It doesn’t just change your pricing. It changes your relationship to your own value.
Why Strategy Alone Isn’t Enough
Most business advice focuses on strategy:
Pricing models
Sales scripts
Marketing tactics
And those things matter.
But strategy without a strong root system is fragile. It works until there’s a major storm—and then everything turns up-side-down. Because it wasn’t built from your natural design.
This is why so many businesses become what I call “hybrid businesses”— A mix of borrowed strategies that work for a while, but don’t sustain long-term growth.
Eventually, something starts to feel off. Momentum slows. Decisions get harder. And confidence erodes quietly. Not because you’re doing something wrong, but because you’re building from something that isn’t fully yours.
What Happens When Everything Clicks?
When you understand your S.E.E.D. Code™ and align your business with it:
Your offers become simpler and more effective
Your messaging sounds like you (because it is you)
Your best-fit clients recognize themselves immediately
And your pricing becomes a natural extension of your value
And this is when business starts to feel lighter—not because you’re doing less, but because everything is finally working together.
You don’t have to push for growth. You cultivate it, just like a well-tended garden.
Getting Paid What You’re W.O.R.T.H.—For Real
Getting paid what you’re worth isn’t about picking a higher number.
It’s about building a business that reflects who you actually are, delivers value in a way that feels natural, and communicates that value clearly
Remember, when those things are in place, pricing becomes the easiest part of the conversation.
A Simple Question to Leave You With
If your business already has a natural design… Are you building from it— or working against it? Because when you reconnect with that design, everything changes. Not just your pricing—but how your entire business operates, grows, and supports you.
If you’re starting to see where things feel heavier than they should… this is your next step. Uncover what’s actually driving your pricing challenges here: https://bit.ly/SEEDCodeAudit2
